Hello, I'm Kari. This is the blog of a girl who likes to draw and write. There's nothing special. Fan of many things: Assassin's Creed, Christopher Nolan movies, Hetalia, Legend of Korra/ATLA, comic books, anime, manga, video gaming, and reading. (Please refer to the About Me section for more details!)

Apparently there is a shitstorm going on, and a rewrite/AU-fanfiction project is underway between the people who don’t like how season 1 is panning out so far. I would investigate, but personally, if it’s as bad as it sounds, it would hurt to dig through the mountains of posts about how “This and this Mako sucks” or “Makorra all the way” or “Asami needs to lay off!” which was apparently, the previous shitstorm.

I’m going to add my two cents from what I’ve seen. I apologize if my lack of deep thorough investigating into the shitstorm makes me come off as ignorant, but I have at least glanced at the original post about the Season 1 Rewrite and surrounding shitstorm of it.

Personally, I love Legend of Korra. I really do. I love the new setting that they put it in, I love the new animation and fights, I love the ideas that the show’s writers have created and put into this universe. The steampunk-ness clashing with the spiritual world? That’s amazing! It is a great, great show, filled with great, great ideas and characters.

Is it the perfect paragon of a show? No, no it isn’t. But I don’t expect it to be. Everything has flaws, and the show’s writers are only human. I personally think the love triangle was awkward and forced, Korra hasn’t done any airbending training for the past five episodes, and some of the plot points are never explained thoroughly (how do Yakone and Tarrlok bloodbend without a full moon?). I can recognize these flaws, yet still acknowledge that the show is amazing on many other levels. Amon’s character, for example, the idea of oppression of nonbenders, and just how the world itself is advancing in an era when technology has overtaken spirituality.

But keep in mind, I think a lot of these flaws arose because the original idea was to have LOK only be 12 episodes, thus why a lot of these inconsistencies are squished together. I can see where and why these flaws would arise, and it’s from the very limited number of episodes. Remember, guys: ATLA had 3 FULL seasons to expand on their universe and characters. LOK began with only TWELVE EPISODES. So, with the addition of the second season, more can be explained, so all those above plot holes and inconsistencies may not stay.

So concerning this rewrite/AU fanfiction, I can see where they’re trying to come from. Yes, I do believe it should have been worded differently. The way it was worded made it sound like they could do better than Bryke with their “rewrite”. That was extremely poor wording on their part, as well with the rest of their post. I also believe that they shouldn’t have publicized it so much, and instead of making it such a big project (art and animating? Really?) just settled with something small, like AU writing fanfiction.

I can also see how the other side can view this as “Oh, you just don’t like the show’s creative decisions with your pairing/this event/etc.” Yes, this is also perfectly plausible. They could use it as a guise to rectify their pairings, etc., and reading their OP, it does seem that way (I won’t lie, writing it to “meet up to the standards of ATLA” is a little bit hateful, to me). But I can see a lot of people literally saying “THIS SHOW IS PERFECT” which, in reality, it isn’t, since it does indeed have its flaws because they originally only started off with 12 episodes, and because Bryke are HUMAN. Also, Bryke are writers, and their creative work can and will be open to criticism. It is only natural when it comes to creating something.

Basically,

EVERYBODY STOP ARGUING, LET’S PREPARE FOR THE SEASON FINALE, AND LET’S GO BACK TO BEING A FANDOM THAT LOVES EACH OTHER AGAIN.
